Harney Lane | Live Life Unhurried

Issue No. 14 | We’re Not There Yet

As I write this, I’m making dinner—something that will hold for whenever Kyle can grab a moment to eat. Harvest is in full swing, and this week threw everything but the kitchen sink at us. Good things, hard things, unexpected things.

Amongst the chaos, we struggled to find those moments to pause, to take in the evening air. It was one of those weeks you just get through the best you can, and that’s okay. And now, somehow, Sunday is here again—and it feels like we just had Sunday. Where did the week go? That got me thinking about the year, because it’s flying by too.

When I get to this point on the calendar, it can feel like the year is already done. Summer flows into harvest, and this one arrived early, not even taking a pause in between. Next up is our busy family birthday season, and then the holidays. Put a bow on it—that’s a wrap.

Just as I’m trying to take it one calendar square at a time, August tries to push me towards fall. The pumpkin spice lattes will be here soon. The Halloween candy is already at the store.

I catch myself feeling end-of-year stress in the middle of August, and I have to stop and remember we’re not there yet. We still have beautiful summer days left. We only get these long evenings for a bit. We’ll only have the pool for so many more weeks. We only eat al fresco for a season. There are still plenty of moments to put the year on pause and savor the season we are in.

So, this week, we’re eating outside—even if dinner has to wait.
