Harney Lane | Live Life Unhurried

SUSTAINABLE FARMING

Our Commitment to the Land, the Vines, and the Generations to Come

When you have lived and worked on the same piece of land since 1900, sustainability isn’t just a buzzword or a marketing trend—it is a deeply ingrained way of life.

LIVING BY A HIGHER STANDARD

Certified Lodi Rules

This is not a simple checklist; it is California’s original—and most rigorous—third-party sustainable viticulture program.

To carry the LODI RULES seal, we must meet over 150 strict, scientifically sound standards that go far beyond just pesticide use. This comprehensive program measures our performance across six key pillars of sustainability:

Ensuring our family farm remains viable for generations.

Treating our incredible vineyard team like family, with fair wages, safety, and respect.

Protecting the natural habitats and waterways that surround our vines.

Building rich, living soils through natural cover crops and natural compost.

Utilizing highly precise drip irrigation to conserve every precious drop.

Encouraging natural predators, such as our resident barn owls, to maintain the balance of the ecosystem.

Stewarding the Future Through Sustainable Packaging

We believe that our commitment to the environment shouldn’t stop in the vineyard; it must carry all the way through to the materials we use to share our wine with you. We are continually evaluating our packaging to reduce our footprint, focusing on intentional, eco-conscious choices:

For many of our wines, we have intentionally removed the traditional tin capsule from the bottle neck—a simple, visible step to significantly reduce unnecessary packaging waste

We utilize lighter-weight glass for our bottles, which drastically reduces the carbon footprint and energy required to transport our wine from the estate to your table.

Every order leaves the winery in recycled corrugated cardboard, protected by biodegradable, fully recyclable molded pulp inserts—ensuring your wine arrives safely without the use of harmful plastics or Styrofoam.

Even the smallest details matter. Our labels are printed on sustainably sourced, FSC-certified paper using environmentally friendly [soy / water-based] inks, ensuring our respect for the land extends to the very front of the bottle.

Our Unhurried Approach from Vine to Wine

Step Back to Let the Vineyard Speak

By fiercely protecting the ecosystem and trusting Mother Nature to take the lead, we intentionally step back rather than over-managing the land. This unhurried restraint ensures that every grape beautifully expresses the pure, authentic character of our Lodi estate.

Guide the Fruit With an Intuitive, Unhurried Hand

Once the harvest reaches the cellar, our approach shifts from cultivating the land to gently elevating what nature has provided. Rather than forcing a specific flavor profile, our winemaking team relies on intuition, patience, and meticulous care to guide the wine. It is a deliberate and focused style of craftsmanship that honors the unique journey of each vintage.

Release the Vintage Only When It’s Ready

We believe that exceptional wine cannot be rushed, which is why we intentionally hold our wines in the quiet of our cellar until they beautifully mature. We choose patience over haste, keeping the wine resting until it is completely ready for you to uncork, hit pause, and share around your table.
