What shining qualities do you bring to your role at Harney Lane?
I am part owner at Harney Lane and fourth-generation family member on the Home Ranch. Being that our tasting room is quite literally in my backyard, I feel like Harney Lane is an extension of my family.
I believe that I bring a welcoming and friendly face to all those who come through our doors. I want people to feel like they are coming into our home. I also can tend to speak “off-the-cuff,” meaning that I like to keep Kyle and Jorja on their toes!
How do you light the path for others?
Back when I was pouring in the tasting room, I would always try to set a good example to the team by being on time and doing what was asked of me. I grew up thinking that the customer is always right, and I still think that in most cases. It is important to smile and let the customer know that it is our honor to serve them.
In your life, which lady is lighting your path?
My grandmother, Bertha, was someone I deeply admired. She was poor, had seven kids, and worked three jobs. She also became a single mom at a young age. Despite all of these hardships, she felt she was very blessed because of her family. Family was the most important thing in her life.
Although it may sound funny, I consider my mentor to be my daughter, Jorja. I thought she was an incredible physical therapist before she started working for the family. I am very proud of all of her hard work, and the huge changes that have developed at the winery over the years as a result of her leadership and persistence.
How can women influence a brighter future for all?
It is important to stay strong, but not arrogant. With determination, smarts, and the determination to work towards your goals, a bright future will undoubtedly follow.
What brings you sunshine?
Meeting people. They are just the best. I love getting to know people. When I used to meet people in the tasting room they would share with me their whole life story. You form a connection with these people and you find out that they really care. To this day, some of the people I have met in the tasting room have become good friends.
I also enjoy music and love musicals! My favorite musical is Mamma Mia, especially when I got to see Kirsten (my granddaughter) perform as the leading role of Sophie.
How do you add sparkle to a dull moment?
I usually just speak my mind! I love making people laugh. Kyle and Jorja might consider me inappropriate at times, but I just say that we have a different sense of humor. I hope to add sparkle to most moments by lightening the mood and keeping things fun!
Who lights up your life?
My grandkids, Kirsten and Ian. I love spending time with them, and truly enjoy any and all moments when the family is together.
I also have several special friends that I’ve had for decades (some since high school!). Getting lunch with these friends is something I cherish.
Which Harney Lane wine do you reach for in your shining moments?
Easily the Home Ranch Chardonnay! I think it tastes the way a good chardonnay should taste. It is consistent year after year, and it the perfect balance of fruit and creaminess. I just can’t find any other Chardonnay that compares (I may be biased..).
