My dad was certain the players could hear him. Every Sunday afternoon, he’d settle into his recliner and “coach” his team through the television, loudly and with complete enthusiasm. Years later, I found myself doing the same thing from the stands at our son Ian’s games. I have to admit, I love the game.
This week has had me searching for the pause button on life. Some weeks feel that way.
With harvest wrapping up, my attention has already turned to the next busy season, without even a breath. We really shouldn’t need an excuse to take time out and give ourselves a break, but sometimes it helps to have one. So, I am looking forward to a few hours on the couch with the Niners game on.
And I want the afternoon to feel slow. I want it to be easy. Just the game, something in the slow cooker, and a salty snack on the coffee table. Full permission to be a couch fan taking a pause before the week begins again.
Football is my excuse. Yours might be that book you’ve been wanting to read or a long walk with nowhere to be. Whatever it is, give it your whole afternoon today.
