Harney Lane | Live Life Unhurried

Issue No. 1 | Finding a Fresh Perspective

I’ve started walking through my flower garden twice a day—once in the morning with coffee, once at night with a cold glass of wine (like our new Rosé, for instance). This season has been strange. We had a warm winter, and everything is weeks ahead of schedule. The vineyards went from bud break to bloom in what felt like overnight. The garden is the same—changes you can see from morning to evening.

Something about staying in touch with it and watching these rapid changes is calming. And it’s away from my office, from my phone, from the multitude of other things that interrupt the day.

I’m probably the most unqualified person to share about living life unhurried and taking moments to pause. I feel like I’ve been running to complete a never-ending to-do list, increasingly buried under the noise of life, for years now. I keep thinking that if I just complete the list, get to the next stage, or hire the next person, I’ll have a moment to pause.

Maybe you feel similar.

But the reality is that the only way any of us will find that space is to make it.

To guard it and make it a priority. Without creating space to take a breath, I know I feel more anxious, more exhausted, more disconnected. I lose time to actually connect, to create something, to think.

Most writers and speakers I follow say they’re inspired to dive deeper into what they don’t have figured out, not what they do. So in that way, I’m very qualified to write this Sunday Reset for you.

Each week, I’m going to share one thing that is helping me slow down—or one thing I noticed when I did. Maybe it’s a new rhythm. Maybe it’s a cadence that helps us notice our surroundings. Maybe it’s simply a reminder to breathe.

For me this week, it’s been noticing those small changes in the garden. Maybe for you it’s something outside your door, or on your walk, or in your own backyard. Pour a glass of wine if you’d like, and just see what’s different.
