This September, we celebrate California Wine Month in the heat of harvest! We jumped into the 2019 harvest season a little early and have hit the ground running to ensure that our estate grapes are tended, tested and picked at just the right times. The beauty of being a family operated winery and vineyards is that we have the flexibility to do these things exactly the way we envision. There are challenges, too, but the finest payoff is seeing that beautiful fruit roll into our production facilities!

Join us throughout the month of September as we host educational events to expand your wine awareness, while sharing our Lodi Home Ranch and Harney Lane history. Read on for event details and brush up on your California wine facts! And if you aren’t on our email list yet, sign up to receive the most up to date event details.

Saturdays in September: Follow the Grape – Cultivate your Tasting Knowledge

Follow the Grape into our Tasting Room Saturdays in September! Each week we’ll explore a different varietal from a sensory and historical point of view. Experience the journey that our estate grown grapes take, from our sustainably farmed vineyards all the way into your glass! Activities vary, ranging from fresh-off-the-vine grape tastings, vertical samples of library wines, family farm heirlooms, and Q&A with Harney Lane’s knowledgeable staff. No reservations necessary, included with a tasting fee. Follow the Grape on:Concetta Follows the Albarino Grape

Pop Up Events all Month: Farmer’s Series

Harvest is crazy here at Harney Lane! But we live for the smells, sounds and excitement that arrive with our freshly picked fruit each season. This September is your chance to get in on the action. Our Pop Up Farmer’s Series: Harvest Edition will take place all month, offering a wide range of real-time harvest activities on our estate, hosted by Harney Lane Proprietor and Farmer Kyle Lerner. To ensure that you experience the thrill of harvest at its peak, Farmer’s Series invitations will be sent out just a few days prior to each activity. Space is extremely limited and harvest activities vary widely, but that’s all part of the fun! Watch your emails closely for invitations. $30 per person.primitivo clusters

Lodi: Did You Know?

  • Lodi has been a major winegrape growing region since the 1850’s
  • Lodi is home to all of California’s big varietals and has been the leading producer for Cabernet Sauvignon, Chardonnay, Merlot, Sauvignon Blanc and Zinfandel (though there are over 100 varietals, many specialty, currently grown in the region)
  • There are over 90 wineries and approximately 100,000 acres of premium winegrapes in Lodi
  • Lodi produces over 40% of California’s Zinfandel and still farms array of heritage and historical Zinfandel sites, with some vineyards dating back to 1888
  • The Lodi growing region actually consists of 7 sub-AVAs, each with their own unique growing characteristics: Alta Mesa, Borden Ranch, Clements Hills, Cosumnes River, Jahant, Mokelumne River and Sloughhouse
  • Lodi’s sustainability initiative, Lodi Rules, is one of the most comprehensive wine sustainability certifications in the nation and has been adopted by many wineries outside of the Lodi region, including one as far away as Israel

  • We are 100% estate! That means we personally farm all of our winegrapes here on our Home Ranch and surrounding Lodi vineyards
  • Our family is 5th generation on the farm, continuing the legacy that began when Great Grandpa planted the first winegrapes here, back in 1907
  • We have about 120 acres of our own winegrapes, but only use about 10% of production for our award-winning Harney Lane wines – the rest is sold to wineries all over California and beyond
  • Harney Lane Winery & Vineyards is “Certified Green” through Lodi Rules, America’s original sustainable winegrowing program
  • When we opened our winery doors in 2006, we had about 700 cases of wine produced and now, in our 11th year, are pushing 8,000 cases
  • Our Certified Historical Lizzy James Zinfandel Vineyard, planted in 1904, now carries the namesake of our 6th generation – Kirsten “Lizzy” and Ian “James” LernerKirsten Elizabeth & Ian James strolling vineyards
