This past Friday, we had the distinct pleasure of welcoming our members and guests to the estate for an incredibly special evening. We gathered to celebrate Patriarch’s Promise—a beloved release that holds profound significance for our family, and the keeper of a fiercely guarded secret we have held for nearly twenty years.
A Warm Welcome in the Historic Gardens
The evening began under the trees in our historic gardens. Guests were greeted with a welcome reception, setting the tone for an unhurried night of storytelling and connection. We poured a curated lineup of Patriarch’s Promise, allowing everyone to taste the evolution of the wine. The tasting featured a highly coveted library selection, showcasing the wine’s graceful aging, an exclusive barrel sample from the 2022 vintage, offering a glimpse into the future. And our beautiful current release, enjoyed alongside the warm summer evening.
An Unhurried Dinner on the Crush Pad
As the sun began to set, the celebration transitioned to the crush pad. Embracing the relaxed, hospitable spirit of the estate, we settled in for a beautiful barbecue-style dinner. It was a perfect evening filled with great food, flowing wine, and the kind of relaxed conversation that makes Harney Lane feel like home.
As the dinner began, Proprietors Kyle and Jorja Lerner took the stage. They shared a moving tribute to Jorja’s dad, our fourth-generation farmer and patriarch, George Mettler. After recounting the history of the wine and the promise George made, they finally shared the moment twenty years in the making – Kyle and Jorja officially revealed the secret varietal behind Patriarch’s Promise.
