“When you drink a glass of wine made from Lodi Rules certified grapes, you are supporting a farmer, a vintner, and an entire agricultural community that embraces their responsibility to care for the environment and the people.”
Lodi has always been a leader in sustainable farming practices. We are proud to be a region that proactively educates the public and develops revolutionary programs like the Lodi Rules. In agriculture, sustainability means farming in a way that is environmentally and socially responsible, while also being economically viable. As fifth generation farmers, this model is key to our way of life and business.
Lodi Rules is a pioneering third-party certification program that was born from a community effort to support local farmers with simple sustainability solutions. Created by and for Lodi grape growers, Lodi Rules began as a grassroots education program aimed to reduce the amount of pesticides used by teaching farmers more about the entire vineyard ecosystem (called integrated pest management). After over a decade of input from farmers, viticulturists and leading environmentalists, Lodi Rules has now certified over 1,000 vineyards all over California and as far away as Israel.
Designated by the “Certified Green” sustainability seal on the back of every bottle of Harney Lane wine, the Lodi Rules seal guarantees that the grapes inside have been farmed with verified, scientifically-sound sustainability practices. The program takes on a multifaceted approach to evaluating water, ecosystem, community, people, soil, pest management, generational farming and quality, ultimately contributing to a better life for our vineyards, our planet and ourselves.
