Thankful…

Enjoy a sweet note from Kathy, our wonderful matriarch! “Fall is one of my favorite times of year.  It means so many different things to me.  In our family we have many birthdays to celebrate during the season.  We also look forward to harvest that fall brings.  Our men work crazy hours and lack sleep but it’s year of work brought to rest.  I love the color changes, the different smells and  the cozy feeling fall brings. November is always a good reminder of all the things I am thankful for.  I am thankful for this:  This November George is not in the hospital and is feeling much better.  That’s a big ... November is always a good reminder of all the things I am thankful for.  I am thankful for this:  This November George is not in the hospital and is feeling much better.  That’s a big thank you.  We have had a good harvest and wonderful wines from this vintage are on the way.  Our wine club is growing like crazy and we are so thankful.  We have family and friends along with our amazing staff that is here helping us whenever needed.  You see…I could go on and on about being thankful because we are so blessed.

So as this holiday season approaches, take a minute or two and count your blessings!  May your holidays be filled with love, laughter, family and wine!!

Thank you, Kathy”

Continuing the thankful mood, we put up our very own “Harney Lane Thankful Tree” in the winery last week and it’s already covered!  Visitors have been filling out little cards with their own thankful wishes. What a great way to start the holiday season!

Cheers to you and yours this Thanksgiving! May you have lots of love, laughter and Harney Lane wine!

What we did…February Events

It’s February 29- this day only comes around once every four years- that calls for celebration! Sit back with a glass of vino and enjoy reading about what we’ve been up to. We’ve had a few very busy weekends! The winery was buzzing during Lodi Wine Country’s 15th annual Wine & Chocolate Weekend. A couple thousand people came through the tasting room, each receiving something to remember us by- a Harney Lane boa for their wine glass. George was back in action behind the bar after a much too long hiatus. We were all very happy to have him back! Kathy and Jorja tended to customers and Kyle helped keep things ... Read More...

George was back in action behind the bar after a much too long hiatus. We were all very happy to have him back! Kathy and Jorja tended to customers and Kyle helped keep things running smoothly in the parking lot think limo after bus after bus after limo!

We served up warm Chocolate Chili, made by Mike at Avenue Grille. People loved it! Tom tended to the BBQ and served up pipping hot Lakewood Brats with Chocolate BBQ Sauce. Our bakers had been busy all week making Zin infused brownies about 20 batches worth!

Two weeks later we were entertaining our fabulous Wine:30 crowd! Club members were treated to the release of our 2009 Petite Sirah, which, by the way, is receiving rave reviews. We’re hearing people say that it’s drinking perfectly now who knows what will happen a couple months down the road. With less than 200 cases produced, my prediction is that it won’t be around for too long end of summer, maybe?

At the Pick Up Party, members enjoyed our awesome lineup of wines with Pulled Pork Sliders smothered in homemade Zinfandel BBQ Sauce. As usual, the family was in action. Including, Ian James who served up bbq on Saturday and helped park cars on Sunday. He’s been bragging about the $8 in tips he made ever since! Ranger kept folks entertained…err…patiently waited for them to drop crumbs…

The weather was beautiful all weekend. Guests filled the patio and enjoyed tapping their toes to the bluegrassy sounds of the Campbell Creek Gang. This quarter’s pick up included our 2009 Lodi Zinfandel and our 2009 Lizzy James Old Vine Zinfandel.

In addition to these fun weekend parties, the Wine:30 Club receives quarterly shipments of two or four bottles as well as 20% off all wine and merchandise in the tasting room (some exclusions apply). It’s a pretty sweet deal, so sign up already!

Merry Christmas!!

Most of us have our Christmas Traditions, don’t we?  In our family, many of our traditions are centered around our Christmas trees.  As long as I can remember, we have traveled as a family….sometimes a few of us and sometimes many….to cut our own Christmas tree. Since I was a small girl and my parents remodeled their home, they have been putting up an 17 to 18 foot tree every year which is not easy to find on a tree lot!  Another tradition in our family…. exchanging ornaments.  Usually its something that reminds us of the person or the year gone by.  When I got married to Kyle and moved out of the house ... Since I was a small girl and my parents remodeled their home, they have been putting up an 17 to 18 foot tree every year which is not easy to find on a tree lot!  Another tradition in our family…. exchanging ornaments.  Usually its something that reminds us of the person or the year gone by.  When I got married to Kyle and moved out of the house my mother boxed up all the ornaments I had collected over the years.  I had so many, in fact, that it filled our first Christmas tree.  In response, I , of course, started buying ornaments for Kyle and now for our kids (after all…it was OUR tree) so soon one tree was not enough.  Now our home is graced every year with 2 trees.  Maybe one would be enough if I had room for an 18 foot tree.

Kyle typically thinks all this is a little bit of craziness (Although I don’t remember saying it was reasonable).  This year, however, he surprised me and came home with the ornament pictured above for me!!  He said he picked it because Santa was sitting back relaxing on the moon and that’s what he wished me……a little relaxation!  And that is the biggest thing I wish for all of you this Christmas and into 2012!!  We hope you are all able to stop and relax a little bit! Enjoy your time with family and friends!  Share a few wine:thirties!  Just pause and enjoy!!  That’s really the best tradition to have anyway, isn’t it???  Special times and great memories!!!

We at Harney Lane wish you all a very Merry Christmas AND we wish you health, happiness and time to relax and enjoy in 2012!!!!   CHEERS!!!!

~Jorja, Kyle, George, Kathy, Kirsten(Lizzy), Ian (James), Ranger & Max too!!

p.s.  The fire will most likely be roaring this winter when we’re open if you need to pause and enjoy a wine:thirty with family and friends!!

Taking the Time

I know it is nearly the end of the 1st month of the new year but I believe it is never too late to make a New Year’s Resolution.  After all, the calendar really shouldn’t be the determining guideline of everything.  So….here it is….I resolve to take time and enjoy the memories we are creating more!!!  Yes….I know….who doesn’t need to do this.  Right?  Actually follow through is the trick!! There have been so many reminders lately of how time flies, how life is short and how I feel like we have missed enjoying some of the greatest accomplishments and fun times because we are so busy planning the next thing.  When it’s all ... There have been so many reminders lately of how time flies, how life is short and how I feel like we have missed enjoying some of the greatest accomplishments and fun times because we are so busy planning the next thing.  When it’s all said in done, we will remember the moments that we let ourselves enjoy and not the lists that we’ve made for ourselves.

Just like wine, life is meant to be savored I think.  Especially the good parts.  We have been blessed at Harney Lane with great wine, great staff,  a quickly growing wine club, great awards, great reviews and wonderful friends that grow in numbers by the day!!!  We keep saying that we are in a constant state of development because our business keeps changing and growing.  We feel like we are always playing “catch up” a bit.  I’d say that make us very blessed and it’s time to just put the seat belt on and enjoy the ride a bit.

So……Cheers to a year of good health, good fortune, great friends and to pausing to enjoy and be thankful for all of them!!!

Warm Night (sort of) & Spanish Delights!

Earlier this month we hosted our first Winemakers Dinner for our Wine:30 Club.  It was a bit crazy in the final prep minutes but turned out to be a great success!!  I think that the day was one of the windiest we have had all year and while weather reports predicted winds to die down at 5pm it was still windy with gusts to 30 mph at 6:40 (20 minutes to showtime!)  So…..in the last few minutes we moved 1/3 of the tables further tucked in on the patio.  So we sat very “cozy” out on the patio!!!   No one seemed to mind to much though…..might have had something to ... A Dream Realized!

I’ve set down with a glass of Albarino to tend to a very overdue update of our blog.  To those of you who faithfully watch for something new, the latest progress, wine and vineyard updates…..I am VERY sorry.  As many of you know, the last month or two (it’s becoming a little foggy and not because of the Albarino!) have been very busy for us dealing with final construction, landscaping, moving and more.  It seems appropriate that as the year’s labors are about to be realized in the vineyards with harvest, our 3 years of labor are about to be realized with the completion of our tasting room.  Finally, no ... At the beginning of August we rather quietly moved in, trying to figure our way around our new space.  And when we moved in the space it really felt just like that…..a new space.  A rather empty new space.  But, we soon hosted a group from the Society of Wine Educators for tasting and lunch.  And then we had a great night of celebrating the completion of our Tasting Room with our Wine Club.  And very quickly the space felt completely different to me.  It took on a good Vibe.  A space filled with fun times, new relationships and good memories. And this is just the beginning!  I’ve only had a few sips of my Albarino, so you can’t blame the sentimentality on that.  It is heart felt!!

So, now plans are underway for a Grand Opening Weekend, September 19th and 20th.  We hope that we will see you there to help us create more good memories!!!  We will be celebrating between 12 and 5pm.  Should be a fun weekend of Good Wine, Good Food, Good Music and Good Friends!
